The Howling Twenties

Joanne Walton Taverner

Last time, the twenties roared.

They danced and they danced and they danced

Until the tables overturned

And they lay together

Laughing from the floor.

This time, we do not roar.

We howl and we howl and we howl

Until all that’s left are empty eyes

In every window

Of the Zoom call.
